Birla Institute of Technology,Mesra, Ranchi has awarded degress to the 2006 passouts on 23rd May, wednesday.
Around 1400 students consisting of both under graduates and post graduates passed out in 2006. There was a good attendance of around 800 students, despite the hot weather and it being a working day in the middle of the week.
The chief guest was Dr.Anil Kakodkar ,His excellency,the chancelor and governor of the state Syed Sibtey Rajey presided over the ceremony. While Mr Kakodkar and the chancellor have awarded the gold medals to the respective branch toppers, Chancellor Dr.SK Mukherjee has awarded the degrees to rest of the students.
Addressing the Birla Institute of Technology's (BIT) Mesra convocation at Ranchi on Wednesday Kakodar said, 'Carbon dioxide (CO2) emission is threatening serious consequences and nuclear energy will be able to keep it at lowest level'
'India is working for nuclear renaissance. We have succeeded in translating nuclear programme through Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) which is on par or better than global benchmarks,' he added.
All students celebrated in the company of their friends and were excited that convocation finally has happened..
